About Me

Welcome to my website dedicated to Monastery Work.

I am Rita Agius, mostly known for my hobby Monastery Work, a fascinating craft that is well known in Malta, and has been so for the last twelve years. At that time there was a craze going on in Malta about another wonderful craft, namely Ganutell which although using the same materials used in Monastery Work is worked in a completely different manner. My interest in Monastery Work began when I stumbled across a German book titled Klosterarbeiten (which translates to Monastery Work). I can say that it was love at first sight, and although it was almost impossible for me to follow what was written in the book (it was all written in German), I started experimenting and trying to figure out how the wires forming all those flowers and wonderful shapes were wrought. I never looked back, and now, twelve years later, I can say that this hobby is now popular in Malta due to all that hard work I did back then and all the exposure I gave to my hobby through TV programs and courses throughout these years.

Many people attend my courses and are especially satisfied when they assemble their first piece of work, some cannot believe that they managed to do the work themselves! Since Maltese people are scattered all over the world but are still attached to this island and their families here, they often come visit Malta for extended holidays. It has become a common thing for me to have these ‘foreign’ Maltese attending a few lessons and returning home with a beautiful work of art.

An important thing to keep in mind if you wish to start enjoying this hobby is to be patient, as always practice makes perfect and you will keep getting better as you complete small pieces of work and eventually go to bigger projects. You can also visit this websites for tips and tricks that I will make available for you and will also try to answer any of your queries by email.
